yeh the late 90's were great, But then vauxhall pulled out.....renault pulled out. and they started running three cars, which is the reason i was against formula one having three car teams.

The best years of the BTCC were around 1996-2000 as I think most of you agree - it hasn't quite been the same since we had all those manufacturers pulling out at the end of 2000.  Anyone remember why it seemed to lose favour with the manufacturers back then?

Having said that after some quite poor years in 2001 and 2002, the last couple of seasons have been better.

The costs were too high. Alfa set the trend in 1994, then Audi, Nissan, Honda, Volvo started spending mega bucks then they realised they couldn't all win.

I used to watch the German Supertouring on some bizarre channel on cable too, it was awesome, and had some great drivers like Aiello, Tarquini etc.

I like DTM more than BTCC now, I think the BTCC cars are a bit crappy although thte racing is pretty good. I used to think the FIA should organise things so that the DTM was like the Formula One of touring cars, and national series being like feeders under supertouring rules.
